Rug experience

There was little time in which to pursue my hobby, for since I was employed full time in a law office, there were only evenings in which to perform all the household duties necessary to maintain a home for my son.

But like all those who have an absorbing hobby, I rode it every spare moment. When you really want to do something, you will find the time for doing it — if your desire is strong enough!

My progress was infinitely slow — too slow to realize that the diligence required to produce new patterns would eventually result in a pyramid. Those early years were full of obstacles!

I had no training. It was thrilling to find I could do something of which I had never dreamed. I had no funds. My supplies had to be gathered the hard way.

I had so little time. I was always torn between joy and duty, — the joy in designing and my duties as Mother and homemaker. Much of my designing had to be done after my son had retired for the night, for we had much to discuss about his school affairs.

Many times, long after midnight, sister May (who lived in my lower apartment) would call to ask, "Are you going to work ALL night?"
